Grand Floridian Gingerbread House Now Open

There’s something sweet at The Grand Floridian Resort and Spa this holiday season!

Celebrating its 15th anniversary this year is the Grand Floridian’s unique and celebrated life-sized gingerbread house!

Standing 16 feet tall and sporting over 5,000 cookie shingles, this Victorian gingerbread house is decked out for the holidays with poinsettias, candy canes, wreaths, chocolate Disney characters, and even a sprinkling of powdered sugar!

Guests will have the chance to visit (and sample!) this massive holiday treat in the lobby of the Grand Floridian between November 16th and December 31st, 2013, open daily from 10am to 10pm.

Gingerbread House is Made With

  • 1050 pounds of honey
  • 800 pounds of flour
  • 600 pounds of chocolate
  • 600 pounds of powdered sugar
  • 140 pints of egg whites
  • 35 pounds of spices

This life-size masterpiece took over 840 hours of labor with Master Pastry Chef Erich Herbitscheck and his team beginning this past June.

This year’s house also features 15 hidden Mickeys, so keep an eye out!

Grand Floridian Bake Shop

Tucked away inside the house is a small bakery where you can purchase some of the delicious treats created by the Grand Floridian Bake Shop, including chocolate lollipops, cookies, peppermint bark, truffles (with chocolate boxes), and, of course, gingerbread.

Gingerbread men, gingerbread cookies, gingerbread houses, even gingerbread ornaments.

Note: Most of the gingerbread is made using Erich Herbitscheck’s delicious and traditional Austrian recipe, which does feature stronger hints of anise and other flavors that many American guests may not be expecting from gingerbread.

If you have any picky eaters in your party, the gingerbread men are less strong than the Shingle or Mickey cookies.

Everyone is welcome to the Grand Floridian’s lobby to enjoy this yuletide treat.

The Grand Floridian is located near the Magic Kingdom and can easily be reached via water taxi from the Magic Kingdom or via the Resort Monorail from the Magic Kingdom or Transportation and Ticket Center.

If coming from Downtown Disney or any of the other parks, the hotel can be reached via one of Disney’s complimentary buses.
