Harry P. Leu Gardens

The Harry P. Leu Gardens are located at 1920 North Forest Avenue, in Orlando, Florida.

Situated close to downtown and next to Rowena Lake, the landmark gardens and historical home, the Leu House Museum are on 50-acres of beautiful ornamental grounds.

The Harry P. Leu Gardens are well known for horticulture.

The gardens aim is in preserving and maintaining a landscape and a wide range of plants.

Their collection includes tropical plants, palms, vines, annual flowers, trees of oak, elms, camphor, azaleas and much more.

Guest of all ages will discover and enjoy all the beautiful art, landscaping and plants in each botanical gardens on exhibit.

Camellia plants originally planted by Mr. Leu, have grown into over 2,000 plants and 230 plus cultivator in the Camellia garden.

This collection is America's largest Camellia collection outside of California.

Stroll through the Mary Jane Rose Garden where over 215 varieties and 650 roses are showcased.

The garden is named after Mrs. Leu, who planted her first roses on the site by the lake.

This is the largest formal rose garden in the state of Florida.

As you walk along the miles of paved scenic walkways, wind your way through various garden settings and exhibits.

Enjoy the Butterfly garden with its butterfly, moth, and hummingbird attracting annuals, perennial, shrubs and trees.

Explore the Tropical Stream display of tropical and subtropical plants of aroids, bananas, croutons, flowering trees, vines and more.

Visit the Kitchen garden where herbs and vegetables are grown.

Appreciate the blossoming art in the gardens. Different Citrus Worker sculptures stand near the Citrus Grove and Vegetable gardens.

The Doves of Peace display near the White Garden evokes pure inspirational.

Peter Oftinoski's artistic creations of welded metal life form captures the imagination.

Guest will find his charming Bride and Groom couple, the playful Girl on a Scooter and quaint Grandpa and Grandson pair to be eye appealing and amusing figures.

Tour the Leu House Museum, a restored 19th century home that is listed on the National Register of Historic places.

The museum offers guided tours daily from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Tours are conducted on the hour and half hour. They are 30 minutes in duration.

Learn about affluent people who once owned and lived in the house.

Start in year 1858 with the first owners as Angeline and David W. Mizell, on to year 1902 with Duncan Pell and Actress Helen Gardner in residence third family to reside in the home was Joseph and Martha Woodward in 1906.

Finally in 1936, Wealthy businessman Harry P. Leu and his wife Mary Jane purchased the property.

Henry P. Leu Gardens offers adult guided tours for 10 people or more.

Reservations are required at least 3 weeks in advance.

Guided tours are conducted by trained docents.

Garden tour is 1.5 hours long.

The Garden and Leu House Museum tour is 2 hours in duration. School, scout, and children summer tours are also offered and require reservations 7 days in advance.

The Garden House Welcome Center overlooks Lake Rowena and is a fascinating area for entertaining.

The welcome center provides excellent space for celebrations and special occasions.

Room rental is available for private and culture events, banquets, weddings, reception parties, business and educational seminars, or a retreat.

The center is open every day from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m. Closed on Christmas, December 25.

The Henry P. Leu Museum provides plant related classes and workshops year round.

They publish a horticulture guides with information about plants and gardening topic.

Along with Orange County extension Service, they offer a walk in Plant Clinic for residents.

Free of charge, a Master Gardener is on hand to help diagnose plant and turf problems, as well as soil testing.

Cost of Admission

Only $5.00 for adults and $1.00 for children grades(K-12).
Free admission (excluding tour groups) on Monday 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon.

Sorry, pets are not permitted within the Gardens.
