The Orlando Eye Nears Completion

For the past few years there has been a buzz around Orlando getting it’s own “eye.”

It is the next attraction in the I-Drive 360 entertainment and dining complex to open.

In a few short weeks The Orlando Eye will open publicly.

On May 1 the attraction will open followed by a grand opening on May 4.

Not Your Standard Ferris Wheel

The Orlando Eye is 400 feet tall observation style Ferris wheel.

Passengers will ride the wheel in one of 30 air-conditioned capsules, each can hold up to 15 people.

Passengers will not feel as though they as swinging through mid-air when the capsule reached 400 feet because of the support built into the entire wheel.

Each capsule is a stabilized-driven, which means you enjoy a really smooth experience on the whole way around.

According to its official website, the Orlando Eye is the first wheel to ever use such a system in combination with a suspended 'ski lift capsule design'.

In early 2011 initial talks about the installation of a world famous observation wheel began.

The main support structure went under way in December 2013 and the final capsule was installed on February 5, 2015.

There are over 60,000 light bulbs on the external lighting rig that will illuminate the wheel.

What to Expect on the Eye

When you book a trip on the wheel you get more than a 30 minute ride in a circle.

Select your flight based upon what time of day or night that you would to see Central Florida from the sky.

The wheel operates from 10am until at least 10pm daily, with extended hours on weekends.

Once you have boarded your capsule make sure that you get a space in the direction that you would prefer to view.

If the capsule is full it will be hard to move from one side to another.

Better yet, pack a selfie-stick so you don’t have to do the truffle shuffle.

Birdís Eye View

As you move higher in the air you will begin to see places like Cinderalla’s Castle at Magic Kingdom or the Space Coast on a clear day.

In addition to well-known parks and attractions, there is a lot of Central Florida’s natural beauty to admire.

With picturesque sunsets, early evening timeslots are guaranteed to back the house.

Packing a camera with a decent zoom would be a great idea if you would like to capture photos that extend a bit further away from the observation wheel.
