Camp Corral Golden Corral

Updated: 14 Aug 2013 03:21:31 AM

Camp Corral is a weeklong program for children aged 8 to 15 whose parents have either been injured or fallen during military duty.

The camp not only provides respite from the stresses of life, but also is an opportunity for these kids to share thoughts, feelings, and experiences with each other, and form lifelong friendships.

It operates very much like a traditional camp in that it includes plenty of activities, such as canoeing, horseback riding, and archery.

Because the children all come from military families, there are additional activities available that incorporate volunteers from members of the armed forces.

At the end of the week, children go home with a keepsake box as a way to remember their time at Camp Corral.

A lot of kids come out of the experience saying it was the best week of their lives.

Camp Corral takes place all over the country, and publishes its schedule on its website.

Applications

Applications for children can also be found on the website, and the camp is free to all children who are accepted.

All employees at the camp go through a rigorous vetting process to ensure the safety of the children, and each camp runs in association with YMCA or 4-H - both trusted youth organizations.

Golden Corral, a popular chain of family-style restaurants that can be found around the country, funds Camp Corral.

Golden Corral has a long tradition of military appreciation, and is actively involved in raising money for The Disabled American Veterans Association in addition to providing funds for the camp.

The closest Camp Corral is at the 4-H Camp Ocala in the Ocala National Forest.
