Florida Back to School Sales Tax Holiday

Updated: 14 May 2013 : 02:38:15 AM

The Florida Legislature has again passed the annual August back-to-school sales tax holiday that includes the purchase of personal computers and is on its way to Governor Scott for his approval.

The economic development bill includes a three-day period, August 2 through August 4 when several items will not be subject to the standard six percent sales tax.

For tourists, this sales tax holiday, as in previous years, will not be applied at airports, theme parks, or hotel gift shops.

Tourists can still save a little by planning a vacation just before August 2-4 and take advantage of this special tax holiday before leaving Florida by doing a little back-to-school shopping at shopping centers in the area before returning home.

Items for school such as clothing, shoes, bags, and backpacks that are below $75 as well as school supplies that cost less than $15 would be eligible for the tax holiday.

In addition, personal computers and accessories under $750 are covered during this time.

Digital readers, tablets, and items like keyboards or monitors will also be included but does not include cell phones or TV sets.

This is a great way for everyone to save a little money for school purchases for the kids, and helps everyone, especially with tight budgets.
