La Llorona Haunted House Halloween Horror Nights 2013

Updated: 10 Sep 2013 02:05:28 AM

With Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Orlando creeping ever closer, horror fans and adrenaline junkies have been following each and every announcement of which haunted houses will be filling out this year’s lineup.

First to be announced is La Llorona, an elaborate scare zone/haunted house based on the Latin American legend of the same name that tells of a beautiful woman who drowned her children in order to be with the man she loved.

Devastated when he still refused her, the woman drowned herself and, refused entry into the afterlife, was forever doomed to walk the Earth in vain search of her murdered children.

The Weeping Woman

Her endless weeping earned her the name “La Llorona” (literally, “the weeping woman”).

Many versions of the story take a cautionary turn, warning children that if they stay out after dark or disobey their parents, La Llorona will come for them – an aspect of the tale played to great effect in Universal’s haunted house.

“La Llorona’s intriguing and tragic story has been terrifying people in Mexico and all over Latin America for centuries,” said Mike Aiello, Creative Director for Universal Orlando’s Halloween Horror Nights.

“And now at Halloween Horror Nights, you will be transported into her mysterious realm and experience firsthand this disturbing folktale.”

History

The haunted house has been a staple for the last few years at Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood, where it became a big hit with crowds due to its memorable sets and terrifying special effects.

Now, the torch has been passed on to Universal Studios Orlando, which will doubtlessly put its own spin on the terrifying tale.

La Llorona is one of many of the haunted houses and scare zones recently announced for Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Orlando, which are set to begin on September 20th.

Shows

Jack the Clown - Jack the clown might look a bit rougher around the edges these days; over the years we can only guess the places he has been.

While he may not be trapped in a haunted house -like Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees- you will likely face him at some point during your time in the park.

Anything involving terror, blood and gore is of major interest to him.

Bill & Ted's Excellent Halloween Adventure - The classic rockers are back with another great show for everyone young and old.
This show is almost too hard to put into words.

HHN Haunted Houses, Dates, and Times

Scarezones

One of the most scream-inducing aspects of this annual event is without-a-doubt the scare zones, which are also known as street experiences.

Unlike the haunted houses, scarezones are designated areas throughout the park where creepy creatures roam freely so guests can tip-toe into some of the most pulse-pounding moments from their favorite television shows, horror movies, historical events and much more.

Each street experience is elaborately decorated to enhance the scare factor for each and every visitor that dares to venture through the zones.

Abundant with masked killers and gruesome gore, this year's brand new lineup of scarezones are certainly just as frightening as they are memorable.

ICONS: 25 Years Worth of Scares - Some of the creepiest characters will again come to life on the streets of this epic scare zone.

Scary Tales: ScreamPunk Scare Zone - There is no avoiding them and they are vying for the screams that will get your adrenaline pumping so give them what they want and they'll return the favor.
