Mermaids at Weeki Wachee Springs State Park

Updated: 10 April 2013 03:40:19 AM

Mysterious and Magical, mermaids have often been thought to be just the imagination of sailors, but there is a show at the Weeki Wachee Springs State Park, just north of Tampa, and witness mermaids play and frolic in the Weeki Wachee Spring.

Named by the Seminole Indians, it means “little spring” or “winding river.”

Each day, 117 million gallons of water bubbles up from subterranean caves into the waterpark and celebrities from all over has visited the show including Ester Williams.

The Little Mermaid show has three show times a day and is watched from a 400 seat submerged theatre where visitors feel like they’re in the spring with the mermaids.

Nostalgic Show April 20 and 21

This year the former Mermaids will be performing a nostalgic show, April 20 and 21, transporting visitors back to the magic of the original show.

Plan a day for the family and let kids watch the show, and see the manatees, turtles, and bubbles in this underwater theatre a part of 65 years of Florida’s tourism industry.

The Mermaid show isn’t the only thing to do, enjoy picnicking on the white sandy beach or in covered pavilions, start a game of beach volley ball, ride the thrilling flume rides in Buccaneer Bay or just take a boat ride.

There are also animal shows for fun, entertainment and an educational experience about domesticated birds and reptiles.

The park is open from 9 AM to 5:30 PM, 365 days a year.
