ESPN Old Spice Classic

For college basketball fans, Thanksgiving weekend is an anticipated event.

The ESPN Old Spice classic will hit the boards November 22-23 and 25, 2012 at HP Field house at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, FL.

This exciting event showcases the best of college basketball talent.

This year’s show promises thrills and nonstop action as Clemson, Davidson, Oklahoma, UTEP, Vanderbilt, Gonzaga, Marist, and West Virginia do battle.

All announced times are Eastern Standard Times.

Game 1

Game 1 will be West Virginia vs. Marist on Thursday, November 22, 2012 at 12:00 Noon.

The West Virginia Mountaineers, Morgantown, WV, are a team with mostly freshmen and sophomores under Coach Bob Huggins.

The Mountaineers senior Deniz Kilichi, a 6-9 forward from Turkey, is the galvanizing force of this team. 

Watch him to dominate the courts for the Mountaineers.

WV was 19-14 last year.

With a heavy roster of seniors and juniors, the Marist Red Foxes, from the Metro Atlanta Conference, are favored to take game one. 

The Marists had a disappointing 14-18 season last year, but expect them to be a challenge this season.

Game2

Game 2, Vanderbilt vs. Davidson, will be Thursday, November 22, at 2:00 pm.

The Vanderbilt Commodores, Nashville, TN, is another young team of freshmen and sophomores.

At 25-11 last season, they have a formidable reputation to maintain.

Head Coach Tim Corbin’s skills will have to shape these young players quickly.

Davidson, at 25-8, has one of the best records coming into the ESPN Old Spice Classic.

The Wildcats, of Davidson, NC, have a roster heavy with juniors and seniors.

Jake Cohen, a 6-10 forward is the anchor of this team.

Game 3

Game 3, UTEP vs. Oklahoma, is set for Thursday, November 22 at 7pm.

The University of Texas at El Paso, UTEP, 15-17 last season, is another team with more freshmen and sophomores than experienced players.

 Head Coach Tim Floyd calls the Miners “an eager team” and hopes 5th year senior Konner Tucker will be the standout player, with his ability to make perimeter shots.

The Oklahoma Sooners, always a dominant Big-12 basketball team, was 15-16 last season.

This Norman, OK team is a staple of men’s basket.

; Senior guard, 6-4 Steven Pledger should be a major contributor to this team and will be thrilling to watch.

Game 4

Game 4, Clemson vs. Gonzaga, will air Thursday, November 22, at 9pm.

For many basketball fan, this may be the best showdown of all.

Clemson, with a 15-16 record last year, is another team made up predominately of freshmen and sophomores.

Led by 6-9 forward, Milton Jennings, the Tigers will want to do well at the Old Spice Classic to make a decent bid for a NCAA tournament.

Gonzaga, 26-7 last year, may be the powerhouse team of this Classic.

From Spokane, WA, the Bulldogs have rabid fans and the team seldom let them down.

Kevin Pangos, a 6-2 sophomore guard, is the Bulldog to watch.

Hitting 40% of his 3 pointers and 85% of his free throws, this talented player may dominate the court.

The Rest

Games 5-8 will be held on Friday, November 23 and the final four games scheduled on Sunday, November 25th.

Watch your local channels for times.

The ESPN Old Spice Classic is a wonderful way to begin the college basketball season.

Talented competitors will fight hard for wins, advancements and the opportunity to better their schools.

It is a three day classic not to be missed.
