Since 1989, the Orlando Shakespeare Theater (Orlando Shakes) has proudly staged works of the Bard.
With a cast of top notch professional actors, directors and musicians, this is live theater at its finest.
More than forty-one Shakespearean dramas have been presented over the years, and while the Bard takes tip billing, the Theater is branching out to more traditional and contemporary works.
The season usually includes six plays by Shakespeare or contemporary playwrights, three plays for children and PlayFest!
A weekend devoted to world premiere plays, never seen before.
PlayFest!
PlayFest! is the place for Shakespeare lovers.
This event not only boasts packed readings, it also features lively panel discussions, reception parties and intense networking.
For audience members, it is the opportunity to see a work at inception.
The Orlando Shakes PlayFest! has introduced more than one hundred new plays, many of which have gone on to critical acclaim.
Audience member’s personal favorites are noted and selected for full-scale productions in another season.
The readings are introduced by a well-known theater professional.
Workshops!
Besides plays, Shakespearean or other, the Orlando Shakes offers educational opportunities in the form of workshops, classes and training programs for theater lovers of all ages.
Summer camps focus on weeklong programs for children as young as four; adult classes revolve around acting components such as character development, scenes and vocal methods.
The Orlando Shakespeare Theater operates with the community in mind.

Free Theater
You may think that the days of free theater are long gone, but this isn't so.
For the last few years the Orlando Shakespeare Theater has hosted an evening under the stars.
Each May guests are invited to Loch Haven Park for a free screening of films like Monty Python and the Holy Grail or Whedon's Much Ado About Nothing.
Everyone is welcome to this event.
The Orlando Shakespeare Theater is housed in the John and Rita Lowndes Shakespeare Center.
