The annual Daytona 500 is the biggest event on the Sprint Cup calendar.
It is such a huge event that just qualifying for the race is a weeklong process.
The qualifying starts the week before the race when every entrant rides two laps around the 2.5-mile racetrack.
The faster of the two laps counts as the qualifying speed.
Budweiser has been a sponsor of this race since 2013.
The 2016 race is scheduled for February 18th, making it a great late Valentine's Day surprise.
The two fastest times lock in those drivers on the front row of the Daytona 500 the following Sunday.
You are almost always guaranteed to see racing greats like Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and Jeff Gordon racing bumper to bump along this course in order to solidify their place at the 500.
The rest determine starting spots in one of the two Budweiser Duels at Daytona on the Thursday before the 500.
There are two 150-mile races on Thursday with the top 14 other than the front row driver gaining a spot in the 500.
At the end of the duels other top finishers fill out the top 30 spots for the 500.
That fills out the top 30 spots for the 500.
The final 13 stating spots go back to the qualifying speeds from the previous Sunday for the 31-40 spots and the last three for a past champion’s provisional.
The Budweiser Duel races lend themselves to some high drama with several cars failing to make it in to the Great American race.
With 300 miles of racing on the Thursday prior to the 500, that’s 800 miles of the best action you will find anywhere on the Sprint Cup Circuit.
Many of the drivers you will see in pursuit of the title here know this course like the back of their hand which translates to high speeds and maybe even a race extension to determine the overall winner.
If making it out to the 500 is not on your agenda but you still want to experience some of the great Sprint Cup action, then the Duel are for you.
