Every year in late January, Daytona International Speedway hears the roar of sports cars rumbling around the track for an entire 24 hours in America’s most prestigious endurance race.
This twice-around-the-clock event that takes place the week in between the NFL’s conference championship games and the Super Bowl.
The 2016 event will begin on January 30th and it will be the first event to take place in the freshly renovated speedway.
The Rolex 24 hosts many of the world’s greatest race car drivers from all disciplines from the Indy Racing League to NASCAR to F1.
They join forces with the Grand Am Series regulars to try and put their names in the history books as a Daytona champion.
As a fan, the best way to experience this event is to plan to come early and stay late.
Keep in mind that even when you go back to your hotel for a few hours of slumber there are hundreds of people still driving around the track or working in pit crews.
Driver teams usually consist of three or more driver from all over the world.
This helps driver that may become fatigued over the course of 24 hours.
You can purchase a ticket for the all new grandstands and enjoy truly non-stop action from the interior bars TVs or wide, more comfortable seating.
You can start the race watching from the grandstands.
A good place to be is to the wet of the Sprint Tower where you can see the entire track.
The entrance to and exit from the infield is right in front of those stands so that is a great vantage point.
The infield/backstretch seating area was removed during the Daytona Rising renovations.
There is still ample camping space and this is another place that is full of fun and excitement surrounding races.
You can go down to the garage area and walk around in the Fan Zone, checking out the race cars and taking in one of the free concerts held during the event.
From there you may want to take the “fair” out near Lake Lloyd or check out the race from the temporary grandstands near the hairpin turn on the infield course.
The 24 Hours of Daytona is a race car enthusiast’s dream event.
You can watch for as long as you can stay awake.
