The NASCAR Sprint Cup Season ends every year the Sunday before Thanksgiving in Miami with the crowning of new series champions in the Camping World Truck Series, the Nationwide Series and the Sprint Cup Series.
After that they pack up the cars and head back to Charlotte, NC where they will sit until the following February.
The NASCAR off season is a very short one as far as big league sports goes, taking only December and January off, but that is plenty long enough for the die-hard fans of the sport, so when it is time for the Sprint Unlimited at Daytona, race fans are plenty excited that the new season is underway.
The 2016 event will be held on February 13th and makes for a great start to a memorable Valentine's getaway in Central Florida.
In 2015 the 75 lap race was split into two segments.
A competition caution at the 25th lap will separate the segments of the race.
Select fans will also be selected at random and will be paired with a crew chief and get the unique opportunity to participate in the race.
They will be able to aid in determining starting positions and pit road positions.
The Sprint Unlimited is a non-points race at the Daytona International Speedway.
Not everyone qualifies for the event as in one previous season not even a previous champion, Brad Keselowski was able to participate.
To be invited, you must win a pole at some point in the previous season or be a past winner of the event.
In 2015 changes were made and participants of the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship postseason are also eligible for this race.
The race is one of the “All-Star” events where fans are also allowed to vote on things such as the starting order, number of laps in the three segments, and if cars will get eliminated during the last part of the race.
If you are in Florida during the winter and want to check out a Sprint Cup event without spending a lot of money, then consider the Sprint Unlimited.
