Characters in Flight Balloon Ride
Characters in Flight is a tethered helium balloon ride located on the west side of Downtown Disney.
The attraction is similar to a hot air balloon ride, except you are moored to the ground at all times.
This means that the balloon is simply lowered and raised instead of traveling during flight.
Additionally, the balloon is filled with helium and sealed as opposed to being constantly supplied with hot air.
The result is a more stable ascension without the typical noise and pollution of a hot air balloon.
72-Foot Diameter Balloon
Staying true to the Disney theme, the 72-foot diameter balloon has been decorated with the silhouettes of some of Disney’s most recognizable characters like Mary Poppins, Dumbo and Peter Pan.
The Characters in Flight balloon first opened to the public in 2009 and soars 400 feet into the air.
This provides passengers with unobstructed views of all four Disney parks as well as downtown Orlando and several Disney resorts.
Hours & Tickets
The attraction operates daily (weather permitting) and is open 10:30am - 11:00pm from Sunday through Thursday and 10:30am - 12:00am on Friday and Saturday.
The ride can accommodate up to 30 passengers depending on the weather and stays in the air for approximately 6 minutes.
The total ride time including boarding time is 10 to 15 minutes.
Tickets are $18 for passengers 10+ and $12 for passengers between 3 and 9.
An adult must accompany children under 12.
Tickets can be purchased onsite on a first-come first-serve basis.
