SkyPlex Orlando Continues to Build Momentum

As the crews continue to work on finishing the SkyPlex entertainment complex, being built by Wallack Holdings, we are learning more about exactly what the complex will contain.

Located at the corner of International Drive and Sand Lake Road, the site will completely change the look of the area.

Three World Records Will Be Broken

The 55-story tower is currently scheduled to open in 2017 and will contain the world’s largest roller coaster and tallest drop tower.

They are planning to name the attractions Skyscraper and SkyFall, respectively.

On Skyscraper eight riders at a time will travel up 570 feet in the air before making their way back down going at speeds up to 65 miles per hour as they cover almost a mile of track.

This will be the first Polecoaster ever created.

SkyFall will drop riders from 450 feet in the air and travel up to 90 miles per hour, which will secure the title from the current record holder for tallest drop tower, Zumanjaro: Drop of Doom, at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey.

Worlds Largest Perkins

A 10,000-square-foot Perkins Restaurant will serve as the anchor for SkyPlaza shopping and entertainment center.

This will be the largest Perkins in the world to date.

Wallack Holdings purchased an eight-restaurant portfolio of Perking restaurants in order to secure this site for Skyplex, as reported by Orlando Business Journal.

Not Your Average Shopping Center

SkyPlaza will also have a 55-story glass elevator that will take guests to an observation deck.

From the deck, which is 535 feet from the ground, guests will have views of the expansive Orlando Metropolitan area.

There will be a number or restaurants, bars and retail stores within the 1.5 million square foot facility.

SkyPlex plans to incorporate a new hipline.

The attraction is being called a ‘zipline on steroids” in part to the fact that you are not going on your standard hipline tour.

Instead of being hooked into a harness riders will utilize a vehicle for this adventure.

The zipline will transport its riders downward and upward, providing a unique view of the world’s tallest roller coaster, Skyscraper, Skyfall and the surrounding area.

Another standout feature for this ride is the thrill of a nearly vertical fall.

Indoor Theme Park Planned

Plans include an indoor theme park.

It appears that it could be known as the area’s largest indoor theme park.

It will be complete with first-class arcading, simulators, and a host of rides and games, not to mention the rides attached to the tower.

No Added Parking Concerns

To alleviate parking concerns, Orange County commissioners unanimously approved rezoning for a 600-space parking garage in the lot of an old Walgreens at Sand Lake Road and International Drive.

Total parking will have a 2,400-vehicle capacity.

The lot will service the SkyPlex and Mango's Tropical Cafe.

There will also be a valet parking option.

Construction has begun on the complex. Ground will be broken on the garage in by late April 2015.

This entire SkyPlex project is estimated to cost $300 million.
