Star Wars Coming to Hollywood Studios

Walt Disney World Resort (WDW), which owns the Star Wars franchise, must have a magic ball in the caches because they have decided to make the physical Star Wars footprint a whole lot bigger.

The addition of Star Wars Land is part of a major overhaul that is currently taking place at Hollywood Studios.

The world may never know if George Lucas really understood what a marvel he was creating almost 40 years ago.

Year-round Star Wars Weekend

It’s been almost two decades since Hollywood Studios first hosted Star Wars Weekend, now it is welcoming Yoda and all the other characters to give fans a place to enjoy 365 days a year.

This news means that you might be able to relax in the Rebel Hanger  nacking on Chips & Sith with your family on the 4th of July, something that is not currently possible.

The New Attractions

The Chairman and CEO of WDW, Bob Iger announced that park guests will have 14 acres of space to explore the last trading port, a planet where Star Wars characters and their stories come to life.

There will be two signature attractions, which promise to thrill fans and first time Star Wars explorers alike.

One ride, The Millennium Flacon will give riders control of their mission on one of its trademark ships.

They will need to work on a customized top-secret mission in order to make it out alive.

No two trips on this ship will be exactly alike.

The second attraction will send you to a new Star Wars planet, landing you in the middle of an epic battle between the First Order and the Resistance.

This ride is slated to tie in with the upcoming film trilogy, not the previous movies in the franchise.

What Else to Expect

Not many people enjoy the wait and see aspect of theme park development, but it’s also part of the thrill that many parents recall from their childhood trips to WDW.

The land will begin near Echo Lake; continue through Commissary Lane, ending along the Streets of America.

A full-time Jedi Training Center for young Jedi’s is also something that the park can use to further interest a younger demographic with films that their parents and grandparents enjoyed for decades.

You will also get to interact with aliens, humanoids and droids that inhabit this planet.

They’re certain to provide great photo-ops.

Even heading in to a restaurant will prove different from anything you find in other areas of the park.

Local inhabitants will operate all stores and restaurants, yes, that means space aliens and droids.

You may even find an animatronic working as a local shopkeeper.

Be sure to enjoy a glass of blue milk, just like Luke Skywalker did on Tatooine.

When Will It Arrive

There isn’t a completion date for the Star Wars expansion, but the 40th anniversary of A New Hope is on May 25, 2017.

Not only is during Hollywood Studios annual celebration of the franchise, but it’s right around the scheduled release date of Episode VIII.

Conspiracy theorists may say this is a way to entice you to schedule your WDW vacation today, but it’s hard to believe that the Imagineers aren’t hard at work to make this the most epic Star Wars Weekend ever!

Word on official groundbreaking at Hollywood Studios is still in the wind, but once it starts you can expect the land to be open to the public within 18 months.

This is the largest themed land expansion in WDWs history.

Now that the news is out you should get your family ready to be transported to a galaxy far, far away.
