Dr. Seuss Cat in the Hat Ride at Islands of Adventure

For fans of Dr. Seuss a spin on the Cat in the Hat Ride at Islands of Adventure is a dream come true.

This unique story of an unusually large Cat in a tall, red and white striped hat and matching red bowtie, is loved the world over.

The Cat, with his two good friends, Thing One and Thing Two, show up at Sally and her brother’s house when they are alone.

“I know it is wet and the sun is not sunny, but we can have lots of good fun that is funny”.

With this phrase, the Cat begins to entertain.

Oh, the havoc! The mess! The great and glorious times!

The Cat and his friends, cheering these children on the rainy, dreary day, do impossible tricks.

“Look at me, look at me. Look at me NOW! It is fun to have fun, but you have to know how.”

The Cat simultaneously balances a teacup, cake, glass of milk, three books, the pet Fish, a rake, a fan, a toy man and toy boat and an umbrella, while standing on a ball.

Things go from bad to worse: “And this mess is so big and so deep and so tall, we cannot pick it up, there is no way at all.”

Thing One Thing Two

Thing One and Thing Two fly kites within the house.

The Fish is loudly opposed to this outlandish behavior.

“He should not be here,” says the fish in the pot. “He should not be here when your mother is not.”

This scolding brings Sally and her narrator brother to their senses.

Together, they net the Things and explain the situation to the Cat.

Feeling bad, the Cat cleans up the mess he has made and disappears just seconds before Mother arrives home.

“The sun did not shine. It was too wet to play. So we sat in that house. All that cold, cold, wet day.”

It is all so much joy and fun and a laugh-out-loud story.

Naturally, Universal Studios Florida has elevated this fabulous tale to a must-take ride.

Sallyís House

Here, you sit on a couch and ride through Sally and brother’s house, while the story unfolds in front of you.

Whisking from room to room the entire poem is recited via loudspeakers.

Coming alive before your eyes, all the action, confused chaos, balancing acts, flying kites and protesting Fish are there for you to relive.

The animated characters are bigger than life.

Dr. Seuss used no straight lines in his drawing of Cat in the Hat and the same applies to this delightful ride.

Sally and brother’s home has walls that are angled, twisted or “wonky”, as described in the story.

The Cat in the Hat was published in 1957, but was a hard sell.

The story was rejected twenty-seven times for being too silly and frivolous for children to enjoy.

It is now known worldwide and translated into dozens of languages.

So, come. For the sake of Dr. Seuss, a national icon, take the ride of your life.
